Maria's Horse Trekking

Horse trekking with a beautiful mountain view

TREKKING

Maria’s Horse Trekking is located in Lysos, within the Paphos District of Cyprus, close to the coastal town of Polis.

Our horse treks venture through stunning countryside and pine forests that overlook the sea with breathtaking views. We also ride past old ancient derelict villages in the hills and mountain ranges.

ABOUT OUR HORSES

We have fourteen horses, most of them rescued after their difficult working careers have come to an end, ranging from polo, competition level eventing to horse-racing. These horses had been working very hard and a few of them harshly treated, neglected and even abandoned. Somehow, they have found their way to us and through our love, rehabilitation, retraining program they have grown to become wonderful healthy happy horses again transformed from the damage of their past experiences.

Rescuing these horses is what our team does best. Using patience, kindness, attention and tender loving care, we untrain them from the cruel conditioning programs they have mentally endured and then begin our rehabilitation and gentle retraining of them. In some cases, this is still ongoing, they need regular reassurance, praise, structure and the sense of well-being and safety so that they feel they can begin to trust in humans again.

We have an amazing team of dedicated staff that genuinely care for every one of our horses, taking time to get to know their character, fears, anxieties. They have the experience to know how to teach our riders of all abilities, taking treks out and looking after and service both our horses and riders alike. A fine balance of knowing when the horse is ready for new positive challenges or when to give it more time to adjust.

ABOUT OUR TREKS

Our horses genuinely love trekking with their riders and enjoy a better quality of life. We cater for a wide range of ages and abilities:

  • Children
  • Families
  • Holidaymakers
  • Seniors
  • Novice riders
  • Inexperienced riders
  • Local riders
  • Experienced, advanced riders

All our riders are looked after, instructed and supervised. The trekking groups are small so that riders can be given plenty of equestrian tuition en route while we safely trek across this beautiful landscape. All the horses are suitable for novice riders (young and adult) and for those riders who are intermediate to advanced level.

Our horse treks venture through stunning countryside and pine forests and mountains. Some of our trekking routes overlook the sea with breathtaking views. We also ride past old ancient derelict villages in the hills and mountain ranges.

We advise all riders to wear trousers and trainers or low-heeled boots. Shorts and flip flops or sandals are not suitable for riding.

IMPORTANT

Each person is required to sign a disclaimer that they ride at their own risk. Riders are always accompanied by a member of staff at all times.

OPPORTUNITIES

If you love being around horses, are at least 14 years old and you are a good, capable, confident and competent rider, then feel welcome to join us.

We are always looking for extra help in cleaning stables, making feeds, maintaining the horses' health and well-being, helping with the hay in the stables, grooming the horses, riding on treks with the team and our riders.

You will need to have your own transportation to the stables via parents or family members.

Just call Debbie Maria on if you would like to discuss an opportunity of working with us.
